Departments-Civil Engineering 

The Department of Civil Engineering was established during the academic year 2003-2004. The department offers under graduate programme in Engineering-

    • B.E Civil Engineering                                    

     


The  department  has  dedicated  faculty  members  and  is equipped  with  following state-of-the-art laboratories;

  • Surveying  Practice lab
  • Applied  Engineering  Geology lab
  • Basic  Material Testing Lab
  • Hydraulics  and Hydraulic Machinery lab
  •  Computer Aided Design Lab
  • Geotechnical Engineering Lab
  • Concrete and Highway Lab
  • Environmental Engineering Lab etc.

The department is actively involved in providing consultancy services to the government and private agencies. Every year the department is conducting survey camp for the third year student.

The department is also involved in providing additional knowledge and skills for the students along with academic programme with the help of professional bodies like Association of Consultant Engineers (India), Bangalore, Construction Academy, Bangalore, Puttur Civil Engineering Association, Ultratech Cement, etc.

The department is also organizing various certificate courses in different streams of Civil Engineering as part of skill development programme for the students.
The department has received financial aid from Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology for the final year students’ projects.

Programs

  • The department has organized many technical site visits for the students. Students have visited Master plannery, unique concood products division at Puttur, Gorur Dam, in Hassan district, RMC-Bitumen mixing plant, St.Mary’s island etc., to get hands on experience in Civil Engineering.
  • Ultra tech endowment lecture on Civil Engineering was organized on October 18, 2008. Mr. Nagendra delivered the endowment lecture on the subject – “Self Compacting Concrete”. The office bearers of ACE Bangalore and Mangalore chapter, officers from Ultratech cement were present on the occasion. Mr. Ananda Kumar was the Chief guest.
  • A special invited talk by Dr. Prabhakar, former professor in Civil Engineering, UVCE, Bangalore was organized in the department on March 07, 2008. Dr.Prabhakar delivered talk on “Technical Investigation on Collapse of World Trade Centre”– A case study.
  • A special Advanced Certificate Course on RCC Detailing and Fabrication was conducted for the student as part of the value added course. Twenty Five students have participated in this program.
  • As part of the curriculum, two week – survey camp for third year students was organized at Koila farm, 30 km away from Puttur.
  • Prof. Ganesh B.M presented a national level paper on “Recent Experiences in the use of stone masonry arches in foundation” on Feb 22, 2008 held at T.K.M. College of Engineering, Kollam. He also participated in workshop on Faculty development organized by NMAMIT, Nitte. He has written a Text Book on “Elements of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics” and it will be published by the PHI publication, New Delhi.
  • Mr. Ajith Hebbar, Lecturer in Civil Engineering has participated in one day workshop on “Challenges in Research work”, held at Malnad Engineering College Hassan on Feb 26, 2008.
  • The department is actively involved in providing consultancy services in Civil Engineering to the governmental and non-governmental agencies. It has also conducted preliminary feasibility study on proposed railway project – Kanhangad to Puttur railway line project, on request by Puttur Railway Horata samithi.
  • The department has also received a grant from Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology for final year students’ project “Analysis of Soil CBR value by correlation and Regression Method”.

Future plans:
The department of Civil Engineering is planning to introduce following programs.

  • Expansion of Consultancy cell
  • Development of Centre for Community Engineering and Technology (C.C.E.T)
  • Establishment of Departmental Library.
  • Workshops, Seminars, Industrial Training Programs in association with industry.
  • Tailer made short term courses for students, different trades in construction, contractors, engineers, etc.
